WTF Quote of 2008

The dust is somewhat settling from the latest round of federal bailouts for American companies deemed “too large to fail”. In the fog created by 17.4 billion dollars I pull out this gem dropped by Ford

“Our industry is highly interdependent and a failure of one of our competitors could affect us all.”

Pardon me, but since when is the failure of my competitor a bad thing?! If anything their failure should help me steer clear of their missteps. I guess somehow the media can paint this quote as the transcending of brand and the adoption of patriotism. I guess they think we are all wearing dunce caps,  it is misguided to think that these colossal companies can shape up in three months.  These companies are clearly too big to react to the changing auto  industry landscape, heck if they could you would assume they would have done so quite a while ago.

Honestly could you imagine Honda saying this to Toyota? Furthermore I doubt the slightly struggling Toyota would even accept this type of fabricated pity from Honda.

Our good friend George W. Bush offers a close second place WTF quote with this beauty

“I’ve abandoned free-market principles to save the free market system”

I am truly laughing out loud. Bush allowing Toyota, Honda or even Tata to create a plant in Detroit would have done a better job of saving the free market system, might help the pampered big 3 remember what they once taught the rest of the world…
