Very interesting read by Issa G. Shivji about Nyerere and Pan – Africanism
What was Martin all about?
“Somehow this madness must cease. We must stop now. I speak as a child of God and brother to the suffering poor of Vietnam.I speak for those whose land is being laid waste, whose homes are being destroyed, whose culture is being subverted. I speak for the poor in America who are paying the double price of smashed hopes at home and death and corruption in Vietnam. I speak as a citizen of the world, for the world as it stands aghast at the path we have taken. I speak as an American to the leaders of my own nation. The great initiative in this war is ours. The initiative to stop it must be ours.”
MLK definitely did have a dream, but dare I say that “peace” was his passion. I think people have oversimplified Martin much like Malcolm and tried to paint these men with black and white when there is so much intriguing grey that colors their lives.
Martin was a disciple of Gandhi and walked through life in a Christ-like fashion. The abundance of violence and aggression that consumes mankind today suggests that Martin’s dream has only been partly achieved…
Looking Sharp Boss

Stylist please! We have a case of “when overly matching goes wrong ”
Tisk, tisk, tisk that ensemble even diverts attention away from Bush’s silly grind
WTF Quote of 2008
The dust is somewhat settling from the latest round of federal bailouts for American companies deemed “too large to fail”. In the fog created by 17.4 billion dollars I pull out this gem dropped by Ford
“Our industry is highly interdependent and a failure of one of our competitors could affect us all.”
Pardon me, but since when is the failure of my competitor a bad thing?! If anything their failure should help me steer clear of their missteps. I guess somehow the media can paint this quote as the transcending of brand and the adoption of patriotism. I guess they think we are all wearing dunce caps, it is misguided to think that these colossal companies can shape up in three months. These companies are clearly too big to react to the changing auto industry landscape, heck if they could you would assume they would have done so quite a while ago.
Honestly could you imagine Honda saying this to Toyota? Furthermore I doubt the slightly struggling Toyota would even accept this type of fabricated pity from Honda.
Our good friend George W. Bush offers a close second place WTF quote with this beauty
“I’ve abandoned free-market principles to save the free market system”
I am truly laughing out loud. Bush allowing Toyota, Honda or even Tata to create a plant in Detroit would have done a better job of saving the free market system, might help the pampered big 3 remember what they once taught the rest of the world…
Ria plus Zouk equals PARTY TIME!!
I guess I can thank France for bringing North and West Africa together to birth this music genre that I still can’t find a name for, but I do know I like it.
Mohamed Lamine, Mokobe, Mory Kante, DJ Arafat – African Tonik 2008 (I prefer this version of the video)
113 feat. Magic System and Mohamed Lamine – Gaou Oran (first time I heard/boogied to this was ~2005)
Yea the videos are on the cheesy side but you know your dancing don’t lie
Peace Keeping (The African Touch)

I present you former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and Laurent Nkunda (the leader of the National Congress for the Defence of the People (CNDP) aka “The BAD BAD Guy”) partaking in what looks like a Makossa or Soukous dance battle. This picture is beyond hilarious, I’ve been laughing since I first saw this on Wednesday.
Maybe the UN and other international agencies that aim at bringing peace to various parts of Africa might need to take a page out of Obasanjo’s book and bring their dancing shoes with them when they meet rebel leaders. Heck it looks like OBJ’s oluman boogie is working since there are reports that suggest the ceasefire recently agreed upon by the warring parties is still holding up.
So all I can say is go OBJ go, I need to find my dollar bills to put on his sweaty forehead lol
Testimony!
In swahali means “Ushahidi” and is also the name of a website that was originally developed to map reports of violence during the Kenyan political unrest. The group has now set its focus to assist the people in the Democratic Republic of Congo as they deal with the escalated violence brewing in that region.
You can find The DRC deployment at http://DRC.ushahidi.com, and the mobile number to send SMS reports to is +243992592111.
citizen.africa gives us a glimpse of Ushahidi’s success in Kenya:
Ushahidi was very effective when first deployed to document the incidents of violence and looting during the post-election crisis in Kenya, but more than the need for accurate reporting, the assimilated incident reports help Coordinate Humanitarian Resources and Aid to those most afflicted by the conflict. Ushahidi must succeed, as enough people get lost in conflict due to unaccountability and under-reporting.citizen.africa, Nov 2008
You should check out the rest of the article. Me, I am just doing my little part to ensure that the tale of the Lion is heard loud and clearly in this latest Hunt. Plus its great to see African Innovation especially when it can help other Africans.
A poem for the rest of 2008
IF
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:If you can dream–and not make dreams your master,
If you can think–and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with worn-out tools:If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings–nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And–which is more–you’ll be a Man, my son–Rudyard Kipling
I’ve been reading this on and off all week, very inspiring poem… mine is the Earth and you have a have some too
John F. Kennedy once said…
“Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind”
Now as much as I like Obama as a person, I just feel the Democrats are a bunch of punks and JFK would be sick to his stomach to witness the manner in which they have handled not only the wars America is actively involved in but the various wars America could help squash.
I do feel Ron Paul was the best aspiring candidate, but hey if you can’t run a good campaign you have no chance in today’s America, I just hope Obama can embolden his party to grow some balls
At the end of the day the 2 party politics of this nation is such an ugly off-kitler two step … the Donkeys get their “programs” as long as they vote for the Elephants wars, what a crappy compromise!
